(1) Language: All correspondence will be in English All hunts will be conducted in English. We do have a Portuguese professional hunter who can be booked on request.
(2) Departure address and pickups: Livingstone Trails will pick you up from any address. Livingstone Trails will phone the place where you will be staying between 5pm and 7pm the night before departure to inform them of the time that we will pick you up on the morning of departure (next morning). It your responsibility to find out from the reception where you are staying, what time the Livingstone Trails driver or guide will pick you up on the day of departure.
You do not have to let us know now where you will be staying the night before the hunt start, but must inform us at least 3 days before the hunt starts.
(3) Prices: Livingstone Trails will not change a price after a client has confirmed their booking. However, advertised prices may change without prior notice.
(4) Payments: Please see "Bookings and payments" in this website. No hunt will be confirmed without a 50% deposit. Balance is payable on the first day of the hunt. Please note that there will be an additional 5% credit card handling fee added to all credit card transactions, if and when you choose to pay by credit card.
(5) Luggage: You must understand that luggage space is limited, and therefore you are allowed one large suit case, a day pack, camera bag, bow case and rifle cases per person. All luggage and personal effects are at the client's risk and Livingstone Trails cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to these items. It is further the responsibility of the client to see that he or she has all her luggage when he or she gets of the vehicle at the end of the hunt. It will further be the responsibility of the client to collect lost or forgotten luggage or personal effects from the Livingstone Trails office. Livingstone Trails will not drop luggage off for clients who forgot luggage at one of our hunting concessions or in the bus, or in a hunting vehicle.
(6) Cancellation of a hunt (by Livingstone Trails): The right to cancel any hunt is reserved by Livingstone Trails, in which event all payments made to Livingstone Trails and / or our agents will be refunded in full.
(7) Cancellation of a hunt (by a client): The cancellation of a hunt must be done in writing to Livingstone Trails. Refunds will be done as below, in the event that a client might cancel his / her / their booked hunt with Livingstone Trails. 0 to 30 days prior to hunt departure: No refund will be given to the client / clients. 30 to 60 days prior to hunt departure: 50% of funds paid to Livingstone Trails will be refunded the client / clients. 61 + Days prior to hunt departure: A full refund will be given to the client / clients.
(8) Age Group Livingstone Trails does not impose an upper age limit. However clients under 18 years of age need to be accompanied by a guardian and booking will be accepted at management discretion.
(9) Insurance: Each client that booked a hunt with Livingstone Trails must have personal comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, curtailment, medical, emergency trail and personal accident.
(10) Malaria: All clients doing a hunt in a malaria area with Livingstone Trails, or a Livingstone Trails sub-contractor must take a course of malaria prophylactics as prescribed. An insect repellent is also recommended. Livingstone Trails will advise you if a part of the hunt will be in a malaria area, which is normally parts of Mpumalanga province, parts of Kwazulu Nata province, parts of Botswana and Zimbabwe.
(11) Change of itineraries: Livingstone Trails will only change an itinerary when it is in the best interest of the client or clients. Itineraries are flexible due to changes in local conditions, which include strikes, war, weather, political unstability, riots, lack of accommodation availability, lack of activity availability, vehicles that broke down while on safari and any other conditions where it will be in the best interest of the clients on tour. These changes may happen without notice, depending on the conditions. Livingstone Trails will not be responsible for charges such as visa fees, in the event that Livingstone Trails changed itineraries within reason. No refunds will be offered or given.
(12) Personal injury while on safari: Clients should use common sense while on a hunting safari to avoid personal injury. Livingstone Trails will not be held responsible for injuries or the cost thereof, to any client or clients where Livingstone Trails did not have control of the situation. The above includes clients walking into objects, falling over objects or slipping in wet conditions. Livingstone Trails will not be held responsible for injuries and or illness, or the cost thereof, to any client or clients caused by any insects, animals or reptiles. Each client that booked with Livingstone Trails must have personal comprehensive travel insurance covering medical, emergency trail and personal accident.
(13) Accommodation on tour: Livingstone Trails will provide reasonable accommodation which will be specified and agreed upon before confirming any part of, or the full safari. Accommodation for packages LTH01 to LTH08 will be in a 4 star lodge as advertised, or at alternative accommodation agreed between the person making the booking and Livingstone Trails, in the event that the lodge used is fully booked.
(14) Photographs and video material: Livingstone Trails reserves the right to make use, without giving any notice, of any photograph or film produced by Livingstone Trails without payment or permission.
(15) Wounded and lost animals: Livingstone Trails staff and professional hunters will do everything possible to find any and all animals wounded. However, animals wounded and lost will be considered hunted and the hunter will be charged for that or those animals.
(16) Included animal species on packages, and animals hunted: Hunting packages LTH03 to LTH08 include a variety of animal species in the package price. All hunters do have the option to change included animals for other species, which will result in change of the package price. Livingstone Trails will refund all hunters who have booked and paid in advance for included animals that was not shot during the hunt, for which ever reason. Refunds of animals will be given on the last day of the hunt.
(17) Preparation of capes and trophies: Livingstone Trails employ and make use of skinners with years of experience, who have done hundreds of perfect capes and trophy preparation. However, Livingstone Trails will not be held responsible for any faults while skinning. It remains the responsibility of the hunter to ensure that he or she clearly instruct the professional hunter and skinners to what his or her intentions are, regarding the trophy. In other words, flat skin, shoulder mount or full mount.
(18) Firearms and ammunition: Please note that the below is the norm, but may change as the laws change.
The conservation laws of South Africa (and most other southern Africa countries) requires that plains game have to be hunted with a minimum caliber of at least .270, and dangerous game with a minimum caliber of at least .375 Each hunter is allowed to temporary import a maximum of two hunting rifles with a maximum of 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle, into South Africa.
You are not allowed to import the following firearms into South Africa: * Any automatic or semi-automatic firearms * More than one firearm per caliber per person * More than 100 rounds of ammunition per person per firearm * Any pistol or revolver
Please note that your temporary import permit will be denied if: * If you are younger than 21 years of age * If you have any of the above mentioned firearms and/or ammunition for the above firearms * If any of the below documents or documentation can not be produced by yourself when applying for the temporary import permit or permits at the port of entry
Documentation required when applying for a temporary import permit for firearms and ammunition at the port of entry into South Africa: * Temporary import application form (see below) * A valid passport * A return airline / flight ticket to country of residence * Invitation letter from your hunting outfitter or outfitters * Firearm license in country of residence and proof of ownership * Proof of export from country of residence * Motivation letter written by yourself to motivate why you wish to import rifles into South Africa
Temporary import application form (SAPS 520)(8 pages): * Click here for a SAPS 520 temporary import permit application form, and print. * It is advised to complete the form in advance to safe time. The form must completed in black ink. * Do not sign the form in advance. It must be signed in front of the police official handling your application at the port of entry.
Collecting your firearms and ammunition at the airport, when arriving in South Africa: Your firearms and ammunition will be taken directly to the South African Police Service office at the airport. After getting off the plane you continue through the immigration, customs and luggage collection as normal. Proceed to the South African Police office at the airport, where you will hand in all the above documentation, collect your temporary import permit and firearms.
Process if your application is denied: The South African Police will confiscate your firearms and ammunition, which will be returned to you when leaving South Africa again.
Hire a rifle from Livingstone Trails: It can be a long and painful process to travel with firearms, especially if you are continuing on a holiday to other countries where you will not be hunting. Many of our shorter packages are designed to fit in with your holiday while in South Africa, and the hunting part may be only a short part of your holiday. Therefore you may not want to travel with your own firearms, which always has to be locked in gun safes etc.
Livingstone Trails will rent you a firearm (as below) appropriate for your hunting requirements, if you wish or choose not to bring your own hunting rifles. Plains game: .270 or .3006 or .303 or .308 Dangerous game: .375 or .440 or .458
Rifle hire per day per hunter: R 350 (US$ 50) Ammunition per round fired: R 80 (US$ 10)
(19) The law: The client or clients agrees to comply with the laws and regulations of all the countries visited while on tour, and comply with all reasonable instructions of the professional hunter, trip leader, driver, guide, sub contractors, or hosts relating to the safety and organization of the safari.
(20) Exclusion of liability: Livingstone Trails, or its employees, or its agents, or its sub contractors shall not be held responsible for any accident, illness, injury, loss, or death, or delays, from any cause whatsoever sustained, or suffered by any person, or theft of, or damage to any property, which might occur during the safari. Any claims arising shall be subject to South African Law and the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
